Marty Raney

Homestead Rescue

www.martyraney.com

Marty Raney hosts Discovery Channel’s “Homestead Rescue.” (Currently in its sixth season, the show airs Thursday nights.) He’s also a former survivalist on National Geographic Channel’s “Ultimate Survival Alaska.” An Alaskan contractor, he specializes in log and stone construction. He’s also a well-known singer-songwriter. He has climbed Denali, North America’s highest peak, more than a dozen times; his climbing career has spanned more than four decades. He’s noted for always packing a guitar when climbing, and for being the first person to play a guitar from the summit of Denali. From his Alaska homestead, he now travels across North America, working hard alongside fellow off-gridders. He helps to keep their homesteads (and their homesteading dreams) alive.

Marty will be speaking at the Texas Fair.

Redefining the American Dream

Before the remarkable opportunity to serve as host of the Discovery Channel’s series "Homestead Rescue," Marty Raney spent more than 30 years in Alaska building a successful family business that, well … builds! (Specifically, a business that builds sturdy structures out of native Alaskan stone and logs.) In 1974, his first home in the Last Frontier was not only off-grid, it was off-land: a floating logging camp off Prince of Wales Island. There have been many adventures since, including marriage, four kids, summiting Denali, and building numerous homesteads in arguably America’s most unforgiving wilderness. Along the way, he discovered an American dream in which success and happiness aren't defined by suburban mansions, vacation homes, and expensive cars, but simplicity, land stewardship, and enjoying the fruits of labor. Marty shares tales of adventure and inspirational anecdotes for building a better homestead and a better life.
