Healing Harvest Forest Foundation



David E. “Jason” Rutledge is a co-founder of the Healing Harvest Forest Foundation and has been a charter member of many sustainable forest interest groups during his 30-year career as a farmer, logger, and forester. He has produced several instructional videos about issues surrounding community-based restorative forestry. He has trained more than 200 people in the skills necessary to practice modern horse logging and restorative forestry, while inspiring the environmental ethic of why “man should age” the forest in a gentle way. He is a guest lecturer on forestry issues at several universities and educational institutions across the country. He received the 2010 Logger/Forestry Merit Award from the New River Highlands Resource Conservation Area. He received the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, Virginia Master Folk Artist Award in 2011. He is certified as a Consulting Forester and Certified Prescribed Burn Manager by the Virginia Department of Forestry. He has been keeping, raising, training, and breeding Suffolk Punch draft horses since 1981. He was recently elected to the board of directors of the American Suffolk Horse Association.
