Elizabeth Karmel is the author of Steak & Cake: More Than 100 Recipes to Make Any Meal a Smash Hit! She’s a grilling and barbecue expert as well as a gifted baker who grew up in the Southern cake belt. Her previous books include Taming the Flame, Pizza on the Grill, and Soaked, Slathered, and Seasoned. She was the founding executive chef of New York and Washington, D.C.’s Hill Country Barbecue Market and Hill Country Chicken restaurants, where she developed the menu and the recipes that are still served today. She is the founder and pitmaster of the online North Carolina whole-hog barbecue company CarolinaCueToGo.com. The Tarheel-born Southern cook also designs and sells kitchen tools on QVC. Her sold-out “Steak and Cake” classes at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) were the inspiration for her book of the same name.
