Elizabeth Karmel is a renowned pitmaster and a Southerner by birth, so she comes by both steak and cake naturally! She was a partner in and the executive chef of New York’s Hill Country Barbecue and Hill Country Chicken, where she developed all the recipes. Before that, she handled publicity and marketing for Weber Grills for 10 years. Author of Taming the Flame and Soaked, Slathered, and Seasoned, and co-author of Pizza on the Grill, Karmel is also an entrepreneur with a line of popular kitchen tools. Her silicone-covered mixing forks are offered only on QVC, where she is a frequent, popular guest. Karmel also teaches cooking classes, and her sellout Steak and Cake classes at the Institute of Culinary Education were the inspiration for her book of the same name. She lives in New York.

Steak and Cake: More than 100 recipes for the best meal ever

The nation’s premier female pitmaster, Elizabeth Karmel is well-known and respected for barbecue, one of the only renowned women in the field, and was executive chef at the famous Hill Country Barbecue restaurant. Plus, she’s a Southern girl with cake-baking in her blood. In her book Steak and Cake, Karmel calls cooks to glorious, insatiable action: pairing her mouthwatering signature steak recipes with luscious cakes, plus a chapter of delectable sides. Steak and cake both take a commitment for the home cook (steak’s expensive; cake takes a lot of time), so people want to get them right. Karmel teaches cooks how to do just that in this demo-style cooking class.
