Christy Hemenway is an author, teacher, bee business owner, and TEDx speaker. She founded Gold Star Honeybees in 2007 to advocate and agitate for more natural beekeeping and to further the keeping of bees on their own natural wax comb, in lightweight, easy-to-manage top bar hives. Hemenway has written two books that support top bar hive beekeepers from beginner to advanced: The Thinking Beekeeper: A Guide to Natural Beekeeping in Top Bar Hives and its sequel, Advanced Top Bar Beekeeping: Next Steps for the Thinking Beekeeper. Gold Star Honeybees now produces the Gold Star top bar hive and other quality tools and accessories for top bar beekeeping. Hemenway looks forward to being a part of your beekeeping journey.

The Hows and Whys of Top Bar Hive Beekeeping

Why top-bar hives? Top-bar hives matter to bees because they get to make their own natural wax combs. This "no heavy lifting" hive makes things simple and easy for beekeepers and supports the bees' natural systems at work inside the hive. Christy Hemenway of Gold Star Honeybees counts more than 10 years of experience keeping bees in top-bar hives. Bring lunch and discover just how easy beekeeping can be, and why Hemenway says, “It’s all about the wax!"
