At this workshop, the Livestock Conservancy talks about the basics of keeping sheep, choosing appropriate breeds, and how they can fit in your farm plan.

Chicken Handling

Learn to handle chickens in ways that result in lower stress for the birds while ensuring they're treated safely and securely. The Livestock Conservancy's Alison Martin demonstrates how to hold a chicken so that it remains comfortable, content, and secure (and calm, without trauma). Whether you’re just starting out or have been raising poultry for years, make sure you're handling your birds the right way. This key (yet nuanced) skill in your animal husbandry tool belt comes in handy for restricting birds for medical treatment, evaluating them for selection as breeders, and identifying individual birds (as well as tracking a flock’s progress).
